I purchased a water pump for my 84 Volvo 244 dl. I wanted to get it through napa as i appreciate face to face customer service. I could've got it on ebay for less money. The part was approx $50 and i had to pay $10 shipping. I purposely ordered a pump with gaskets and bolts so there would be no problems. I installed it using the parts supplied me. After doing so i noticed the pump leaking at the heater pipe that goes directly into the in cabin heater. I was showing a friend the leak and also showed him the original pump as it looked to be the original (30 years old). Then i realized there was a rubber grommet like seal on the original not included on the replacement. No wonder it leaked! I went to the napa high point warehouse site where i bought the part. Told them what happened. Oh, i need to mention i lost $17 of coolant bought at the store due to the leak. I put water in the system originally and could not see any leaks (the leak only became obvious after the car had cooled down/during which time i, of course, added the coolant). Still, expecting no credit as i thought this should of been in my knowledge base to know a grommet type seal was necessary, not JUST the rubber washer ring that was included in kit. So, after spending two hours putting in a water pump tat has no chance but to fail, i went to the same store to get the correct part. They looked at the computer diagram (i didnt) "oh, i see exactly what you're talking about" . His words. They didn't have the part. Would have to order the 99 cent part. It will take 2 days to get it. Ok...all the while driving around with gallons of water in the trunk periodically refilling the reservoir to keep from over heating. After (4) days with no phone call i went to the store and asked if they "had that part". They said they had it in stock. Odd? They had to order a part that they have "in stock". I waited for it to be brought to the front and after a few minutes went back to the counter and told them i had to order the part because they did not have it in stock. I s lso mentioned i never got a phone call and humorously mentioned the waste of $17 in coolant. "Are you guys bonded"? I asked but received no comment. Don't know what i expected but i got nothing, no apology, no concern, nothing. Well anyway, got my part. Looked good. On my way. Well, just got through taking belts, cowls, hoses etc off to finally get this nightmare fixed. Only took me an gour this time. Getting better, quicker..i imagine I'll be quicker still thus saturday when i do it for the third time, because you see, I've been given the wrong part. I was given the same rubber seal that "was" included with the original pump. When the gentleman said " I see exactly what you're talking about", he really did not. They are extremely nice and very helpful and i told that friend i mentioned earlier i wouldnt go anywhere else as it seems a lot of these parts places have employees that simply don't have a lot of practical experience with cars. They can only look up stuff on a computer screen when given make model number etc. I'll try to go somewhere and find this seal. I dont know where but i am hesitant about stepping back into your store again. Ive been nice about this but frankly i cant imagine being anymore disgusted and disappointed at this whole fiasco than i am. Will you make this right somehow someway? I don't know what you can do. Can i get the correct setup somewhere else and bring this pump back and get a refund. Do you have a guarantee? What about the coolant cost? I'm in the customer sevice department of a grocery store not two miles from that store. If one of your employees came into my store with the kind of complaints I'm having, I'd fall all over myself making this right.
